I was driving down a highway between Ohio and Indianapolis when it flew in the window.
A book. Sort of a teal color, kinda beat up and scratched around the edges, like a well-worn suitcase.
Roughly the same size as Fantastical Summer, and prettier too.
The windows were cracked by three inches, maybe four, but the way that thing came in still puzzled me. It coulda’ gotten sucked in with the wind and the pollen-fresh air, but it almost felt like the thing teleported through the window.
Landed right in the passenger seat like it was waiting for me. Like it’d been there all along.
The title on the front said, Beyond the Mirage, and I thought that sounded pretty interesting. There are more of them out there, on some place called Amazon: https://amzn.to/4upFiM4

When’d this happen, you ask? I’d say…a year and three quarters ago?

Where it came from…
In all seriousness, the idea for Beyond the Mirage came from a drive. I was in college at the time, and homesick.
I saw an exit sign in Ohio that was the same number as one of the exits in my hometown of Little Rock, Arkansas. I wished that I could take that exit and be home.
That’s when the idea was born.
Quodeshing is a special form of teleportation. You’re driving down the highway in Ohio one minute, and when you get off on exit #133B, you can flip a little shimmering dial in your car and teleport to the offramp for that same exit number in a different state.
Early readers have fallen in love with the characters, laughed, cried, and raved about how authentically Beyond the Mirage discusses faith.
It’s been almost two years since I had that idea, and today, it’s releasing into the wild.
