In the last few weeks, three meteors have landed in the US.

One of them landed in Ohio, just a few hours from my house.

And it’s got me thinking about the end of the world.

Wait, the end of the world?

I grew up believing that the end times might come while I was alive.

  • I was scared to get a stamp on my hand at trampoline parks because it might be the “mark of the devil” in Revelation X.
  • I read the Left Behind series* by Jerry Jenkins.
  • I prayed that it wouldn’t come in my lifetime.

But the first time I really wondered if the end might be coming was when I drove cross-country a year and a half ago.

Fields were burning…

Fields were burning along the highway.

Flames, skirting across the ground for miles and dancing with the wind.

The next time I drove cross-country, the flames had been replaced by flooding.

Water, lapping up to the edge of the ditch dug on either side of a little two-lane highway in nowhere Arkansas.

I pondered what it would really look like to live in a world on fire…

A world actively cracking and falling to pieces.

Rapture??

Sometime after that, I had a conversation with a woman whose husband isn’t saved. She told me she’s putting together a Bible study for him in case the rapture happens before he believes.

That challenged me. A few days later, I wrote this article titled “In Case of Rapture.” I didn’t send it out to my email list, or share it anywhere.

I just quietly put it on my website. If there’s still internet when the rapture happens, I know someone will need it.

Because I’ve realized something vital.

If we really believe that God’s word is true, shouldn’t we act like it?

Go to the gym…

I’ve never understood why people debate end times theology instead of going to the gym.

In Revelation, God says:

  • People will kill each other in the end times.
  • There will be an earthquake in the end times.
  • One will be taken and the other left. (this one is actually in Matthew, but oh well.)

Several other books of the Bible seem to talk about the last one, but it’s not clear if they’re connected.

Maybe I’m wrong…

I can’t say that I’m absolutely sure about the rapture.

But if it does happen before Jesus’s final triumphant return…I hope some teen girl is desperately searching for answers on the internet and stumbles across my article.

And if I’m still on earth when a bunch of people kill each other, I want to be able to scale fences and run away from violence when needed.

And if Charlie Kirk’s death was a turning point in the spiritual atmosphere of the US, I want to go out preaching the gospel too.

So I plan to do something this week that’s crazy practical, and doesn’t sound like it has anything to do with my relationship with Jesus.

I’m going to learn to climb fences.
