I’d never heard of abalones, a type of sea snail, until my friend Lucy Grecu announced the name of her new magazine.
The Abalone is a high art magazine…named after a sea snail.
Honestly, that sounds kind of incongruent to me. High art? Doesn’t that mean snobby? Unless it’s escargo, snails are NOT snobby in my opinion.
But the actual finished project that I held in my hands today? Not snobby at all.
It’s full of short stories based on real life by Christian writers.
The magazine is broken up into sections based on Philippians 4:8, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
One section is about things that are true. Another is about things that are “pure.” Another section is about things that are “worthy of praise.”
God said to think about these things.
Fill your life with LIGHT
I love the mission of this magazine because it’s what I talk about a lot.
Instead of focusing on the darkness, focus on the light. On what is true and pure and noble and honorable. Focus on JESUS. And focus on all the good things he made in the world.
Operating like what he says is true is the best way of fighting the darkness.
This magazine is a tangible way to live out Philippians 4:8. Every time you read a story, you’re focusing on what God says to focus on. I’m so excited to read more, and I’d love it if you joined me.
