I feel like I should have something more put together to say.
My first book was published last week. My publisher and I have been working on this book for nine long months.
It’s been hard.
And now I’m questioning authenticity as a life principle. I feel like I should sit here and write pretty happy things about this book (it’s a good book, btw). But it was easy to feel like this project was sucking the life from me every month I worked on it.
BUT it didn’t.
Not only did I survive, I pressed into Jesus and overcame new obstacles.
*cue the confetti-throwing*
So I cried…
And in the end, that’s why I went home and cried on the day my book launched into the larger world.
I cried because I was so grateful for all the other authors in the project, and that I got to be in a project with them.
I cried because Jesus is kind to me.
I cried because someone told me on release day: “you are worth more than anything you could ever produce.”
“You are worth more than anything you could ever produce.”
I cried because it was true.
I cried because I’ve spent years and months trying to prove my worth. Finding my worth in what I produce. Even right now, the voice in the back of my head is telling me I’m worth less because I can’t think of a nicer blog post to produce and post.
But if anything is sucking the life from me, it’s the lies that I allow in my heart, not a book project.
And it’s the same for you.
It’s about you…
I’m glad I get to give you a little glimpse into my experience as a published author (that’s crazy to type!), but this isn’t just about me.
It’s about the fact that you don’t have to set your worth in anything other than Jesus.
THE CROSS DID IT ALL.
And anyways, you were immeasurably valuable before the cross. You were made in Jesus’ image.
You’re loved by God (1 John 4:11 ESV).
Believe it or not, this book might be an expression of God’s love for you.
I can’t take credit for the Biblical truths and hard questions raised by this book, for the fascinating ideas in each story, for a Christian book with mermaids, yetis, werewolves, seashell portals, or an anti-gravity world.
I hope and pray God crafted it to minister to you in a way that I never could.
