Last Saturday, I sold out(!!!) of my book at a local event.
It’s only the second event my publisher has asked me to attend, and I got SO EXCITED.
And when I did, I started reminiscing with my fiance.
Because selling out at an event isn’t something I’ve ever asked God for.
When I was five years old…
When I was five years old, I wanted to make books.
At some point, I realized that I didn’t want to paste books together with glue like an elf at Santa’s workshop. I wanted to write novels.
(If you got that reference to School Story by Andrew Clements, I am SO proud of you. Please comment that you got it so that I can congratulate you.)
If you’re part of the writing world at all (or even just a reader), you can tell that making books and writing novels are two very different things.
- One is a publisher/editor’s job.
- One is a novelist’s job.
Do you see what I mean?
BUT (and this is where the simple habit that built my faith comes in), God can do anything.
God can do anything…
I’d forgotten that I wanted to make books when I was little.
That session of reminiscing brought tears to my eyes. Because God has already fulfilled that dream.
- He put the dream in my heart to make a book.
- Fifteen years later, he brought the opportunity my way.
The contract to be managing editor of Fantastical Summer just fell in my lap. I wasn’t looking for it.
My publisher approached me and asked if I wanted to put together a collection of clean short stories. I said yes. And made a book.
Unlocking our faith…
- God has answered my prayers after I’ve forgotten that I’d prayed them.
- God has fulfilled my dreams after they’ve been lost to my memory.
- God has worked miraculously in my life in his own timing.
Here’s my theory: there is probably at least one thing that God has worked out for you that you don’t know about yet.
He works all things together for the good of those who love and serve him (Romans 8:28).
So I want you to do three things:
#1. Grab a journal.
#2. Reminisce.
#3. Praise God for every answered prayer that he brings to mind!! And make sure to write it down.
I am sure that God will work out so many more things according to his goodness that you will forget about this one, even if it’s crazy miraculous. Write it down. Then when you’re feeling dry, you can come back to this journal and praise him all over again.
Because he is good.
Did you do it? What wonderful things has God worked out in your life? I’d love to honor God with you. Leave your thoughts in a comment.
