I love comfort reads.
For most of my life, I’ve been an escape reader. Whenever I’ve felt too anxious or stressed or overwhelmed, I’ve lost myself in a book.
And we’re talking LOSING myself in a book. I’d pick up a book, planning to read for fifteen minutes to settle my stomach, then suddenly it was past lunchtime.
(Can you tell I was homeschooled?)

But, unfortunately, not every book in this world is appropriate. I’ve thrown everything from writing books to John Green’s “Fault In Our Stars” away from me.
It’s not vindictive (especially if it’s a library book), it’s an instinct.
I don’t read smut, I’m not a fan of cursing, and I strongly believe in content warnings. (That’s why I used to review books.)
So I wrote a clean book…
It’s called Fantastical Summer. I partnered with fourteen other authors to create this beautiful collection of short stories.
It’s a beach read for the Christian girls. It’s got mermaids and magic portals and crazy cool twists about how the world works!
(Like, in one story, humans usually aren’t affected by gravity. But the main character is. Can you imagine being the only person held down by gravity in a gravity-free world?)
It also brings deep questions to the surface in a tactful, whimsical, and respectful way.

- It’s clean (no sexual content or swearing).
- It’s intentionally God-honoring. There’s even a Bible verse or two in there.
- I believe in content warnings! It’s not dark, hopeless, or gory, but there is a suicide attempt in one story. It’s done with a light hand (in fact, if I hadn’t told you about it, I’m not sure if you would’ve noticed it).
